About us

The AFS Foundation is an independent international foundation existing under the laws of the Swiss Civil Code and domiciled in the Canton of Zürich, Switzerland.  It has public utility character and is not-for-profit.

The AFS Foundation assists AFS International and its affiliates worldwide in promoting intercultural exchanges. It endeavours to preserve the legacy of AFS and The American Field Service. The AFS Foundation also holds the "AFS Trademarks" (the AFS name, AFS logo and related intellectual property) and licenses them.

The AMERICAN FIELD SERVICE web site – a work in progress – documents the organization’s history from the early beginnings in 1914 until 1978. The first section available is the AFS Library with publications pertaining to the American Field Service. And the first pictures have been uploaded to the AFS photo collections.
